Will Halo 5 bring a military coup?

This is mere speculation based on possible evidence from the Halo Universe.(Spoiler alert for Halo new blood) Is it possible that Musa-096 the head of the Spartan IV programme is planning to take over the UNSC and with it all UNG space (united nations government) . In Halo New blood by Matt Forbeck a rebel who held the Rookie from Halo ODST prisoner talks of how the Spartans are planning a take over, she says to buck “the sight of Spartans puts the rebels into a frenzy, they think of them as the symbol of all that’s wrong with the UEG. They call them fascist super soldiers and claim they’ll take over humanity in a military coup that will spell the end for normal folk”. In this statement it is suggested the Spartan programme is purely for control, a race of super humans that will oppress non augmented humans. This is quite an interesting idea, it is scary to imagine a race of super humans in charge; just imagine walking past a seven foot police officer! This theory could be rebel fear mongering or it could be something much bigger. The Spartan IV programme is only ever growing in size, already it is the largest company of augmented Spartans ever formed, Musa-098 is always training new squads... So one might ask why the need for so many?

Literary Evidence: Further evidence in New blood is weaker but still hints at a military coup. Firstly the Spartans are now their own branch of the military and don’t necessarily have to answer to the UNSC, Why would this be necessary unless a hidden agenda is taking place. Spartan IV’s are loyal to the UNSC as most if not all served the UNSC prior to their recruitment, but there is nothing to say some agenda could not turn them to thinking they are doing what is right. Much like order 66 in star wars and Anakin’s belief that his point of view is correct. Buck also uses the term “there are no ranks in the Spartans” this could be similar to a communist belief system and as we all know communism started with the Russian revolution. Buck adds to this by saying “however some of us are more equal than others” This implies that the equality is partially illusion. This also is a common quote used about the communists after their take over of Russia. Writer George Orwell in his book ‘Animal Farm’ also used this quote...Surprise surprise this book was also about a revolution. Buck makes this statement two or three times in the book. 343i have also announced all the books leading up to Halo 5’s release are scattered with story hints. Could this be part of why they have said Halo 5 is the darkest Halo yet?

Musa-098 Musa was meant to be a Spartan II However sadly he was paralyzed by the augmentation process and left wheelchair bound. He harboured a resentment for Halsey and the Spartan programme for many years. Despite this in Halo initiation the graphic novel he sees the need for a new Spartan

programme. Not surprisingly he makes sure new augmentation process is safe and that children do not need to be kidnapped. This resentment for the old Spartan programmes could be festering and with it a resentment of the way the UNSC and ONI are ran. The UNSC and ONI have a dark side where they hold many secrets. They often oppressed the public prior to Halo. Is Musa bitter?... You have to admit an evil wheelchair bound super human sounds like a pretty cool villain; anyone else thinking of Dr. Evil right now?

Other niblets: Spartan IV’s have already turned! In New blood Mickey from Bucks squad joins the rebels and

betrays his squad, this shows Spartan IV’s can be turned and have it within them to betray the UNSC. Another example of Spartans IV’s ability to disregard the UNSC is In Spartan ops when Sarah Palmer also defies orders, Lasky asks Palmer to stand down but she does not do so and instead operates her own mission. Another possible sign that a military coup is in the works is the REAP X project which in simple terms is meant to prepare the military in case of another inter stellar war by giving them new weaponry and EMP weapons, Spartan IV’s would of course be outfitted with this tech, Perfect for killing those pesky Spartan II’s eh?
